At Phoenix International Raceway, there's more than just the action on the track. As the 2008 season progresses, PIR is fully committed to the surrounding community.
PIR Pairs With Make-A-Wish Foundation
As a part of its ongoing commitment to the community, PIR continues to work closely with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Arizona and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America. For each major NASCAR event at PIR, PIR entirely sponsors a full slate of activities for one "wish kid" family in addition to coordinating activities - such as meeting with top NASCAR drivers and taking in PIR's great racing action - for all of the "wish kid" families in attendance at the facility.
PIR coordinates a full guest services effort and works with escorts from the Make-A-Wish® Foundation to ensure that the needs of the families are met for everything from taking a garage tour to watching the exciting racing on the track.
PIR Skies Light Up During Avondale's Annual Fireworks Festival
PIR has continued to show its civil support by hosting, with the City of Avondale, the annual Avondale Fireworks Festival. Having completed its ninth year in 2008, the Festival provides an evening of family fun including rides, refreshments, live music, and most magnificently, a spectacular fireworks show over the mountains behind PIR's backstretch.
As host, PIR offers a unique setting among the Valley's patriotic celebrations, one that is capable of providing easy access and parking for the more than 30,000 people who take part in the event. From their seat in the grandstands, revelers can watch the colorful fireworks show against the backdrop of the mountains and wide-open desert sky.
