21 NEXTEL Cup drivers to descend upon Busch Series race at PIR
Many of the premier drivers in the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will take an early green flag when they compete in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 NASCAR Busch Series race under the lights at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday, April 20. Currently, 21 NEXTEL Cup Series regulars are expected to enter the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 with 2006 Busch Series champion Kevin Harvick looking to defend his race title.
NEXTEL Cup regulars slated for probable entries into the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 include: Greg Biffle (No. 37 CubCadet Ford), Dave Blaney (No. 10 Camping World Toyota), Clint Bowyer (No. 2 Camping World Chevrolet), Jeff Burton (No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet), Kyle Busch (No. 5 Spectrum Spectracide/Lowe's Chevrolet), Carl Edwards (No. 60 Scotts Ford), David Gilliland (No. 25 FreeCreditReport.com Ford), Denny Hamlin (No. 20 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet), Kevin Harvick (No. 77 Dollar General Chevrolet), Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Arby's Ford), Casey Mears (No. 24 National Guard Chevrolet), Juan Pablo Montoya (No. 42 Texaco Havoline Dodge), Ryan Newman (No. 12 Kodak Dodge), David Ragan (No. 6 Discount Tire Ford), Tony Raines (No. 33 RoadLoans Chevrolet), David Reutimann (No. 99 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota), Elliott Sadler (No. 9 Unilever Dodge), Regan Smith (No. 4 Ginn Resorts Chevrolet), Reed Sorenson (No. 41 Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Dodge), David Stremme (No. 22 Supercuts Dodge), and J.J. To date, NEXTEL Cup Series regulars have claimed all eight victories in the 2007 Busch Series season. Kevin Harvick dominated the season-opening weekend at Daytona by sweeping both the Busch and NEXTEL Cup races. Matt Kenseth continued with a sweep the following weekend at California Speedway. Following NEXTEL Cup Series rookie Juan Pablo Montoya's win in the third Busch Series race of 2007 at Mexico City, Jeff Burton won twice in a row by taking checkered flags at Las Vegas and Atlanta. NEXTEL Cup Series regular Carl Edwards was the class of the field in two recent Busch Series events, winning at Bristol and Nashville. Kenseth returned to the top with a win in Texas last Saturday.
NEXTEL Cup Series regulars have made numerous Busch Series visits to PIR's Gatorade Victory Lane, with the last four winners running the following day in the NEXTEL Cup race as well. In 2006, Harvick won the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at PIR and Kenseth cruised to victory in November's ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200. The previous year saw Biffle and Edwards take the checkers in the Busch Series events at PIR.
